This festival holds profound significance for devotees, requiring meticulous attention to detail during the puja. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Devotees fasting should rise early, take a purifying bath, and don new clothes.
2. If near a river, taking a dip is ideal; otherwise, using Ganga Jal in a bucket suffices.
3. Women prepare for the puja after bathing.
4. Decorate a bamboo winnow and basket, preferably in red.
5. Wash and place fruits and vegetables in the winnow and basket.
6. Cover the basket with a red cloth to keep its contents hidden.
7. Visit a riverbank or create a water tub at home.
8. Pray for family health, wealth, and prosperity, offering the basket to the Goddess.
9. Offer prayers to the setting Sun.
10. After evening prayers, prepare for the next day’s puja.

Chhath Puja 2023 is not just spiritually meaningful but also astrologically significant. It’s especially beneficial for those with adverse Sun influences in their birth charts. Kosi or Kosiya involves placing earthen pots under sugarcanes with yellow cloth after the Sandhya Arghya.The festival culminates with the Bihaniya, the morning Arghya to the rising Sun at the ghats, followed by prayers and blessings from elders.

Beyond Rama and Sita’s story, Chhath Puja has significance in the Mahabharata, where Pandavas and Draupadi observed it to regain their kingdom. Karna, Kunti’s first-born, also performed this puja. Legend of Chhath Puja
According to the Brahma Vaivarta Purana, King Priyavrat, distressed by the lack of an heir, performed a yajna at Maharishi Kashyap’s advice. The Goddess Shashti Mata blessed them, reviving the king’s dead son. This heartwarming legend led to the global celebration of the joyous Chhath Puja.
